Panel 3: Learning and EducationPanelist: Dr. Devin Reese
Presentation Title: "Bringing the Biodiversity Heritage Library into Secondary School Classrooms"
Dr. Reese currently acts as a consultant to the National Science Resource Center, where she provides technical expertise on the incorporation of science education research findings into curriculum development and revision for the Science and Technology Concepts program. In her presentation, Dr. Reese suggested three contributions that BHL can make to secondary school science instruction:
1) Help "students get excited about the range of phenomena that science can explain"
2) Help "students become comfortable using evidence from multiple sources to ground and inform their research"
3) Help "students become familiar with the real practice of science such as hypothesis testing and control of variables"
